This is a community discussion space where Imaris is the key topic. This forum will offer guidance to new users, technical as well as application support. Users from sites with a valid Imaris Infinity subscription will receive priority – however, the fastest way to get to the Bitplane Technical and Application Support team will continue to be via Asia, EU or US support mailboxes. Dear forum and bitplane,

we are going to buy a new workstation and we are thinking about the best graphic that allows the better Imaris experience with 3D time-lapse microscopy data. I have 3 questions that might help us in this decision:

1) Can Imaris benefict of any particular architecture or instruction set? (nVidia CUDA, OpenCL, ...)

2) Do you think Imaris is taking advantage for rendering volumes+surfaces
- with a WORKSTATION GPU like the nVidia quadro K5000
- or with a more benchmarking GAMERS GPU like the nvidia GTX 780?
So, is it using any particular workstation instruction for rendering?

3) If we buy a grat graphic card like the last nVidia Titan with 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, will Imaris use it for loading the dataset or will it use the PC RAM still?

There is some useful info on the bitplane website here: http://www.bitplane.com/systemrequirements.aspx

I would definitely speak with your local Imaris support person as they would be able to provide the most comprehensive up to date list of suggested graphics cards. 

I can tell you, however, that the Titan 12GB would not be of benefit for running Imaris.

In contrast, the nVidia quadro K5000 is excellent for Imaris....it is what we are currently using in our Imaris workstations and we have no issues, and quite good performance with Imaris.
